Bridgett Root is a member of the firm’s Trusts and Estates group and focuses her practice in estate planning, elder law, trust and estate administration, and tax. She works with families in creating and implementing estate plans that meet her clients’ goals. She often works with multiple generations within a family in creating these plans.
Bridgett works with a diverse group of clients from young families beginning the estate planning process to families with wealth preservation and tax planning needs. She often works with parents and grandparents of special needs individuals to ensure their estate plans cause no loss of benefits for their family members. She also helps families review long-term care plans and available resources such as Medicaid and Veteran’s benefits. Bridgett received accreditation by the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs. She also works with business owners wishing to transition their business to family members, employees, and others.
Bridgett often helps family members in administering the estates of clients who have passed away. She handles probate proceedings, trust administration, income and estate tax returns, and required reporting. She also represents trustees administering special needs trusts, including those supervised by the probate courts. Finally, Bridgett is involved in many guardianship applications and proceedings, assisting guardians in a variety of matters.
Prior to practicing law, Bridgett worked for a large public accounting firm where she practiced in the tax compliance area, preparing many types of tax returns for individuals and multi state businesses. While working in public accounting, Bridgett qualified as a Certified Public Accountant.
Bridgett enjoys building relationships with her clients and their families and becoming a trusted member of their planning team.
