Jacob Merrill is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property group and focuses his practice in patent, trademark, and copyright law.  

Jake serves a diverse client base ranging from Fortune 500 companies and regional companies to solo innovators. His technological focus is in the mechanical and electromechanical arts. Jake frequently works with automobile drivetrain and fluid routing systems for heavy and passenger vehicles. In his patent law practice, Jake works with domestic and international inventors to prepare and prosecute patent applications with the USPTO.  

Jake’s trademark law practice focuses on prosecution and strategy counseling, and his copyright law practice focuses on litigation support.

Jake is gratified each time a client’s technological developments are brought to market, and he appreciates the opportunity to play a role in securing the associated intellectual property.

Representative Matters

  • Drafting domestic, PCT, and foreign patent applications;
  • Prosecuting domestic and foreign patent applications;
  • Preparing clearance, patent validity, and patentability opinions in the mechanical and electromechanical arts;
  • Prosecuting trademark registration applications; and
  • Preparing memoranda regarding copyright for corporate officers.
