Kara Wanstrath Perry is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property group and focuses her practice in patent, trademark, and copyright law. She has experience in a number of technological areas and in all aspects of intellectual property law, including patent prosecution and trademark prosecution. In addition, she has a wide range of experience conducting intellectual property searches and providing opinions on various intellectual property matters.

Kara serves a diverse client base ranging from Fortune 500 companies and regional companies to solo innovators, focusing on the chemical and mechanical arts. Kara works with inventors and associates internationally to prosecute and prepare patent applications with the USPTO.

Prior to practicing law, Kara worked at Kraft Foods in the Research and Development. There, she worked developing and commercializing new products and processes over a range of products including developing key intellectual property for the company. 

Kara’s education in chemical engineering and her technical background enable her to better understand her clients' complex technologies and protect their innovations.

Representative Matters

  • Drafting over 75 utility patent applications; 
  • Prosecuting domestic and foreign patent applications through issuance; 
  • Drafting non-infringement, freedom-to-operate, and invalidity opinions across a wide range of technologies including pharmaceutical arts, chemical processes and mechanicals arts; and
  • Advising in-house counsel and corporate officers on drafting and prosecution strategies
