Marshall Melhorn is pleased to announce the addition of Michael Zarionias to their Intellectual Property practice group. Michael’s expansive knowledge and experience in intellectual property further strengthens the firm’s robust Intellectual Property section. Michael enters the firm having prepared and prosecuted utility and design patents in the automotive, mechanical, medical device, chemical, pharmaceutical and food science arts. In addition, he regularly advised clients on avoiding patent infringement and successfully designing around competitor's patents. He has also been involved in several patent infringement trials.
In a prior in-house counsel position, Michael identified and evaluated licensable technology protected by both large and small organizations. On a particularly interesting project, he collaborated with financial professionals to create financial models, which estimate the potential value of licensable fields.
Prior to entering the legal field, Michael worked as an analytical chemist where he worked in supervisory role in quality control and assurance. He has a B.A. in Chemistry with a minor in mathematics from Indiana University Northwest and received a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Valparaiso University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Illinois and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
