Tom Christensen focuses his practice primarily in the areas of estate and wealth preservation planning, closely held business representation, and taxation. Tom has also spent a significant amount of time during his professional career designing qualified retirement plans, assisting clients in the purchase and sale of both residential and commercial real estate, and mergers and acquisitions of non-publically traded businesses.
Tom formerly served as the Chair of the Trust and Estate Section of the firm.
Tom has a reputation for honesty, sincerity and the ability to explain complex legal matters in ways that allow clients to understand the law’s impact on their unique needs. Tom has been the past Chair of the Toledo Estate Planning Council, Secretary of the Taxation Committee of the Toledo Bar Association and has served on numerous non-profit boards and foundations.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Tom was an electrician working for his family business in Illinois and then later in Ohio, as he worked his way through law school. His experience working for Christensen Electric gave him a firsthand appreciation for the challenges of operating a small closely held business, experience that has assisted him in being able to really understand and communicate with business owners throughout his career.
Tom’s experience in family business was ultimately wed with not only a law degree, but also with a post doctorate law degree specifically in tax law. The combination of this education and work experience has given him the ability to work through complex transactions that require detailed tax analysis while not losing site of the goals of the families seeking his services.
