Amy Natyshak spends a considerable portion of her practice providing general counsel services to a number of clients, helping them manage all aspects of their legal matters, from “preventative” lawyering to litigation defense, from governmental investigations to negotiations, from day-to-day legal consultation to resolving internal and external disputes. She works with her clients’ key management personnel as a part of the team to provide practical and comprehensive legal advice and services for the organization.

For many years, Amy practiced primarily as a litigator which provided opportunities to practice in courtrooms throughout the region. Along the way, Amy began to work with school districts and private schools in all aspects of education law; she also developed a practice representing municipalities and governmental entities in litigation and dispute resolution. This diverse background has become the platform for her general counsel work.

Amy’s education law practice encompasses all aspects of representing school districts, including labor and employment issues, student discipline, special education, policy review, student records and privacy, first amendment issues, public records, board governance, athletics, and compliance. With her fellow members of Marshall Melhorn’s Education Law practice group, Amy presents a seminar twice a year covering current topics for board members and administrators of schools and school districts.

Amy frequently conducts workplace investigations relating to harassment and other complaints.

Through her public sector practice, Amy defends local governments in litigation at all levels, from administrative charges and investigations to complex litigation, and guides them through dispute resolution. Amy frequently lectures and provides training on various education law, public sector law and litigation topics for the legal community and for her clients and their employees.

Over the years, Amy has enjoyed serving on numerous local non-profit and community boards and committees.
