David L. O'Connell

David O'Connell heads Marshall Melhorn’s Labor & Employment Law practice group. He joined the firm in 1984.

David represents public, private and non-profit employers in employment matters before State and Federal Courts and Agencies including the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the State Employment Relations Board, the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, the Unemployment Compensation Board of Review and the Ohio Industrial Commission. He also counsels employers in all areas of labor and employment law and he is involved in collective bargaining, contract administration, and grievance/arbitration proceedings.

David is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Sections of the American and Ohio State Bar Associations and he served as special counsel to the Ohio Attorney General on behalf of a large state university. He is currently serving a six-year term on the City of Toledo's Civil Service Commission.

David frequently trains management personnel on employment law topics such as discrimination and unionization, focusing on reducing liability risk and improving employee relations.
